• Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have worked out an agreement with the royal family.
  • They announced that they were stepping back as senior royals earlier this month.

Update: 3 p.m., January 18, 2020

Welp, it looks Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and the queen were able to work things out. The queen just released a statement saying they had come to an “agreement” and detailing what Meg and Harry’s new roles will look like after stepping down.

Meg and Harry are giving up their royal titles and royal allowance, repaying the country for their Frogmore Cottage renovations, and basically peacing out of the royal family. These changes to their royal status will be implemented by spring 2020.

Original story

Things are a bit of a mess over in England/Buckingham Palace, and of course, it all has to do with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell decision to step down as senior members of the royal family. It’s caused a ton of drama with the rest of the fam (Will is “incredibly hurt,” Prince Charles is “incandescent with rage,” and Queen Elizabeth also doesn’t seem too happy). And last Monday, the queen, Prince William, Prince Charles, and Prince Harry were all scheduled to sit down and talk about Harry and Meghan’s future roles.

And if you’re wondering how the talks have been going, it looks like the answer to that would be: not great! According to The Mirror (via Daily Mail), the negotiations have “snagged” and will take more time than expected. A source shared:

“The talks have hit a deadlock. There was huge pressure to produce something for the end of the week, but it couldn’t be done. The queen said it herself, these are complex issues and she is exactly right....Any announcement made in due course will be a halfway house, enough to suggest an agreement has been made between Harry, Meghan, and the rest of the family.”

It also looks like this delay in coming to a resolution could force Harry to stay in England and away from Meghan and baby Archie (who are currently in Canada) for longer than he’d like. But honestly, it’s all still TBA, so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens!
