• Yesterday, the palace released a statement about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new roles in the royal family.
  • Sources say the family will revisit the agreement in a year.

It has been a BIG weekend for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as yesterday, the palace released details about their step-down agreement with the royal family. Earlier this month, the couple announced they wanted to quit the royal fam, and since then, everyone has been FREAKING OUT about what that actually means.

Well, it turns out that their stepping down means Meghan and Harry are giving up their royal titles (they won’t go by “HRH” but are still the Duke and Duchess of Sussex), giving up their royal allowance, and will be spending way more time in North America and away from England—but they will still be able to attend royal events (like Trooping the Colour) at the invitation of the queen.

However, it looks like the agreement might evolve with time. A royal source tells People that the current arrangement, which goes into effect spring 2020, will last for a year before the royal fam revisits the agreement, presumably to see what’s working and what might need to change.

When the queen announced Meghan and Harry’s new roles yesterday, she stressed that the agreement was made amicably, saying it’s “a constructive and supportive way forward” and adding, “Harry, Meghan, and Archie will always be much-loved members of the family....It is my whole family’s hope that today’s agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful new life.”
