Tuesday morning, the Colorado Avalanche recalled Martin Kaut from the AHL Eagles. The move comes less than 12 hours after the team lost star winger Mikko Rantanen to a serious upper-body injury.

Selected 16th overall in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, Kaut has spent the last two seasons in Loveland playing for the Colorado Eagles. After a decent AHL rookie season — in which he put up 12 goals and 26 points — Kaut has had difficulty staying in the lineup this season.

The 20 year old has suffered through injuries and a recent two-game suspension, but seems to be healthy and has been playing some of the best hockey of his young professional career. Ten of Kaut’s 16 points this season have come in his last 11 games and it appears as though he’s getting very comfortable in the Eagles lineup.

Just in time for the call up to the NHL.

With a a number of injuries to top-9 forwards in Colorado, Kaut may make his NHL debut tomorrow night as the Avalanche look to end their three game losing streak against the New York Islanders.
