This article is more than 4 years old.

RIMOWA has been a leader in premium suitcases since the 1800s creating the iconic aluminum design with parallel grooves. But since the new CEO, 27-year-old Alexandre Arnault took over the brand has launched several unique offerings in the luggage space. And they just announced their latest: a collaboration with luxury apparel brand Moncler.

Called “REFLECTION,” the new suitcase has RIMOWA’s signature aluminum shell, but with a shiny surface to honor Moncler’s coveted reflective down jackets. The apparel company’s logo will be featured on the front and back to highlight the partnership, and it features matte black handles, a dark grey luggage tag and belt, and silver packing cubes with Moncler’s padded nylon. Of course, the most unique detail is the front LED screen that you can customize to scroll your text of choice via the “REFLECTION” app.

“RIMOWA is delighted to join Moncler for a project that pushes the boundaries of both houses’ frameworks,” Arnault said in a statement. “For us, Moncler Genius is a natural fit as it highlights some of RIMOWA’s most enduring values and links the innovative with the timeless. It’s been an exciting opportunity to exchange creative approaches and explore novel ways of integrating technology into modern travel.”

This is just the latest innovation from the famous luggage brand. In November, they launched the first customization service and previously released the first experiential suitcase, which came with 12 skyhours worth of travel every month for a year. Prior to that, they partnered with Italian streetwear brand Off-White to create a line of limited-edition cases featuring bold graphics and phrases, and Dior to release an elegant new design.

Though RIMOWA has launched several unique collaborations in recent years, they’ve long been innovative in the luggage industry. The brand was the first to introduce an aluminum suitcase into the market in 1937. That decision set the stage for all of today’s lightweight luggage, the standard for travelers. And even with all its innovation, the brand’s original design is still one of the most coveted suitcases today.

Meanwhile, Moncler has had its fair share of unique collaborations too. The Italian clothing brand has collaborated with everyone from Rick Owens and Japanese streetwear designer Hiroshi Fujiwara to British fashion label J.W. Anderson.

The new partnership is actually the third time the brands have collaborated. They previously worked together in 2013 and 2016. Now, Moncler and RIMOWA’s “REFLECTION” suitcase is set to launch in June 2020 in limited quantities at boutiques and RIMOWA’s website.
