Cancellations
The Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, America’s longest running festival of new orchestral music, has canceled its 2020 Season, scheduled for July 26 – August 9 in Santa Cruz.
The cancellation is the first in the festival’s 58-year history.
“The Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music distinguishes itself not just by the music we play, but by the unique sense of intimacy and connection we create among our musicians, our audiences, our staff and volunteers,” said Executive Director Ellen Primack. “That sense of intimacy is at the core of who we are. Our artists travel from across the country and globe and stay in homes with members of our community, making us especially vulnerable. In turn, we feel a special sense of responsibility to safeguard those we hold most dear to us.”
The festival has been at the forefront of presenting new music, bringing together audiences with preeminent and emerging composers, an orchestra of dedicated professional musicians, and renowned guest artists from across the globe to give voice to works that are rarely more than a year or two old. It’s 2020 Season, led by Grammy Award-winning music director and conductor Cristian Măcelaru, was brimming with timely, topical, and thought-provoking new works.

Jazz sextet Seascape Sounds, led by saxophonist Ken Fukui and featuring the vocal stylings of Le Perez, will headline at San Jose’s Tabard Theatre, May 30, rescheduling its delayed performance.
“A Night of Swing Music and Dance” will also include free swing dance lessons before the band takes the stage. The lessons start at 7:30 p.m., and you can try out your new moves when the band starts performing at 8 p.m.
Marc Anthony has rescheduled his date at the SAP Center in San Jose, which was originally set for March 20, to Oct. 9. All tickets purchased for the postponed show will be honored on the new date. Read full story here.

Hammer Theatre Center announced its revised schedules for the spring National Geographic Live speaker series, which brings leading scientists, explorers, authors, photographers and filmmakers to the stage, and its National Theatre Live HD screenings.
National Geographic Live: Egyptologist Kara Cooney is now scheduled to appear on May 20, and award-winning photographer David Guttenfelder is set for July 1.
National Theatre Live HD screenings include a selection of theatrical performances filmed live with a studio audience at London’s West End, featuring performances by such stars as James McAvoy, Andrew Scott, Lindsay Duncan, and others. Here are new dates for screenings at Hammer Theatre.

R&B group Bell Biv DeVoe has rescheduled its March 21 show at the Chase Center in San Francisco to Oct. 10 ($85-$298). Ginuwine and 702 will join already announced guests Anthony Hamilton, Brian McKnight, Jagged Edge and Silk. The concert will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the group’s multi-platinum No.1 debut album, “Poison,” which sold 4 million copies and featured four classic hits.
