‘Summer House’ star Lindsay Hubbard slams claims of ‘fake’ romance with Carl Radke

Lindsay Hubbard has had a “complete doozy” of a season this year on “Summer House,” and it’s all due to her failed romance with fellow original cast member, Carl Radke.

Viewers were stunned when the fourth season kicked off with Carl revealing that he’d (sort of) hooked up with Lindsay after years of close friendship and, while they attempted to give it a shot at being a couple, it became clear that things weren’t going to work out romantically between them.

During a recent interview with In The Know’s Gibson Johns, Lindsay opened up about what has been perhaps her most dramatic arc yet on “Summer House.”

“This is the first time I really had extreme ongoing drama with one of my best friends,” she said. “Everything you guys are seeing was very, very real and authentic, and the feelings were real, whether they were romantic feelings or me having hurt feelings.”

Lindsay continued to stand completely behind the fact that her romance with Carl was completely real, doubling down on sentiments she expressed in a lengthy Instagram post earlier this season in which she slammed critics who accused them of faking their relationship for the show.

“Anyone who knows me — especially viewers at this point — four seasons in and especially my close friends, knows I do not know how to be fake. I think I actually could probably be a little bit more fake for my own good,” Lindsay told ITK. “But I don’t know how to be fake. I don’t know how to contrive feelings in any which direction for somebody. And it’s really disheartening when some viewers say that this was a scripted storyline for the show. There was nothing scripted about this!”

🔥PLEASE READ🔥 I would like to address my relationship with Carl. This is important to me so I hope you all take a minute to read this as well. Shortly before filming this past summer, Carl and I wound up single at the same time. It was then that he decided to shoot his shot. Honestly, good for him. As he should have. You have seen this all play out on the last 5 episodes of #SummerHouse But there is no rule book written on how to go from best friends to then being romantic and then back to friends again. And to do it while we are filming, and while living in the same house under the scrutiny of everyone around us. It truly was a rollercoaster of emotions, and you guys are on that rollercoaster with us. For everyone saying that this situation was “scripted” or was for a “storyline,” it wasn’t. Unfortunately going into it, Carl didn’t exactly understand that I’m not dating just to date at this point in my life (even if he is my best friend), or that he wasn’t quite ready for the level of commitment I need in a relationship. Our expectations were not aligned, which is where it all went wrong. Trust me, he knows, and I made it very clear to him back in July as you are seeing now. I held him accountable then and he holds himself accountable now. Carl is growing, albeit slowly, but he’s getting there. He watched the episode and called me saying, “I’m sorry Hubb House. Watching this back, I realize I was wrong, and it’s hard to watch. Yes, we signed up to share our lives and open ourselves up for judgement. We are aware of that, and we’re both very strong people, and can handle that. But what is NOT acceptable are the mean-spirited, nasty, derogatory, bullying messages about him. I truly appreciate everyone being Team Lindsay here, but please give the guy some grace. He owned his shit and we have both moved on. It took some time and you will continue to see this play out of course. This is a long season, with 14 episodes, and we’re only on episode 5. A LOT happens this season, trust me! For now, PLEASE STOP the negative comments. #MoreLife

When it comes to explaining why she and Carl didn’t work out romantically, it was clear to Lindsay (and, ultimately, viewers) that they were simply looking for different things and in different places in their lives.

“Unfortunately for Carl, he didn’t quite see the bigger picture that, number one, I’m not dating just to date right now. I’m looking for a true partner to spend my life with for the rest of my life, hopefully for forever,” she explained. “I look at relationships in a serious way right now. And I think he just thought he was going to have some fun with me this summer. And I wasn’t willing to really take our friendship and put it in that high of a risk situation, because the consequences could have been lethal.”
