Detroit Pistons second-round draft pick Deividas Sirvydis inked a long-term deal with Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem, according to EuroHoops.net.
Sirvydis was a draft-and-stash selection of the Pistons taken 37th overall who spent the prior season with the Lithuanian pro club BC Rytas Vilnius. Signing a long-term deal in the prominent Israeli club doesn’t mean Sirvydis will not come over to the NBA, but it does provide him financial security and a better league for the 19-year-old forward to continue his development.
Sirvydis played with the Pistons in Summer League where he averaged 1.8 points in 6.8 minutes per game.
As a reminder, the Pistons drafted Sirvydis through a .... circuitous route that indicated the Pistons were interested in targeting a player they could park overseas as opposed to grabbing the best player available.
Detroit originally had the No. 30 overall selection in the first round and traded it to the Cleveland Cavaliers for four second-round picks with the Cavs selecting Kevin Porter Jr.\. The Pistons then traded three second-round picks to move up eight spots to the No. 37 overall spot and took Sirvydis.
Maybe in the end Sirvydis has the best pro career of anyone involved in any of these dumb trades. Maybe he spend his entire career overseas. Maybe it’ll be something in between! I can’t wait to find out.
