As tennis has resorted to the local level in times of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Czech Republic organized a three-day charity tournament boasting a strong field of players. In a restricted environment with just a handful of special guests, team members and journalists present, eight women’s tennis players took the court in Prague to compete for the first time since coronavirus disrupted the official WTA schedule. Interestingly, unlike other local tournaments that have taken place during the pandemic, this one adopted a full-length format of matches.

Happy to get a chance to debut her Nike Summer Paris Dress intended for Roland Garros, two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova won her first match since February’s Doha final, beating Barbora Krejcikova 7-6(3) 6-2 on Tuesday at the Czech Tennis President’s Cup.
In Wednesday’s semifinals, the 12th-ranked Kvitova will face Katerina Siniakova, as the world No.54 advanced past Lucie Hradecka 6-3 6-4.
The other semifinal on Wednesday, May 27th, will feature Barbora Strycova and Karolina Muchova, as the world No.31 Strycova defeated Linda Fruhvirtova 6-1 7-5 and the 26th-ranked Muchova got past Kristyna Pliskova 6-3 6-4 on Day 1.
