A driver was killed and his passenger injured when shots were fired from another car Friday afternoon in Morgan Hill, police said.

The shooting was reported at 2:14 p.m. near the south end of Butterfield Boulevard.

Police arrived to find the male driver unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not yet been released.

His female passenger had not been shot but had unspecified minor injuries, according to police.

Investigators determined that the victims’ vehicle had been heading northbound on Butterfield from Monterey Road when another vehicle pulled alongside it and an occupant fired several shots.

The victims’ vehicle came to rest in the roadway south of Fisher Avenue, police said.

The suspect vehicle, described as a silver sedan with multiple people inside, was last seen northbound on Butterfield.
