On Blackout Tuesday, protesters continued to denounce the killing of George Floyd and raise the issue of police brutality.
Crowds gathered in cities such as New York, Washington, D.C., Houston, Atlanta and Los Angeles in mostly peaceful protests during the day. The demonstrators weren’t deterred by curfews as they walked the streets and demanded reform to police departments across nation and justice for those killed. The death of Floyd under Minneapolis police custody sparked the mass protests. That highlighted other recent cases such as the death of Breonna Taylor, who was killed after police mistakenly raided her home, and Ahmaud Arbery, who was killed by armed white residents while he was jogging.
The images above show how National Guard was called to block access to the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., and how members of Floyd’s family spoke to crowds in Houston. These are snapshots on a busy Tuesday in a restive nation.
