Phish finally made its long-awaited return the lovely Greek Theatre in Berkeley in August 2010, marking the first time the world’s greatest jam band had performed at the historic Cal venue since August 1993.
The quartet would definitely make the most of the occasion, roaring through a three-night stand that kicked off on Aug. 5 with a nearly 10-minute-long version of the concert favorite “Possum.”
From there, Trey Anastasio showed exactly why he deserves to be ranked among rock’s all-time best guitarists as he led Vermont’s finest through one epic jam after another at one of the finest outdoor amphitheaters in the country — which, thankfully, also happens to be in our own backyard.
Ten years later, however, the band still has yet to return again to the Greek, choosing instead the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco for most of its Bay Area dates.
But fans — or, if you will, “Phans” — can relive all three of those 2010 Greek shows. The band has posted audio tracks from the run on its live music archival site, where you can access individual tracks and entire shows.
Meanwhile, the band is posting free concert videos each Tuesday as part of its “Dinner and a Movie” series. Yes, dinner is part of the deal, too. With each show, the band offers a recipe and cooking instructions for a dish selected for that show.
