30 Minutes Of ‘Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’ Gameplay Have Leaked Online

This article is more than 3 years old.

A massive 30 minutes of Assassin's Creed Valhalla gameplay has leaked online, showing off everything from the story and open world to combat and equipment menus.

While Ubisoft has attempted to take down the footage through YouTube's copyright system, multiple mirrors have been popping up all over the place. The most reliable mirror at the time of writing are these three Streamable links, courtesy of Deathlycz on Reddit (Update: these have also been removed.)

Conveniently, the use of copyright also all but confirms that this is genuine footage of the game, which we are expecting to be shown at the Ubisoft Forward event on July 12.

There are two things to still keep in mind. Firstly, there is a slim, but still present, chance that this is not real footage. Nothing is confirmed until Ubisoft itself confirms it. Secondly, if it is real, it is in-development footage and absolutely anything shown is subject to change.

The footage shows that Valhalla will be following the same formula its immediate predecessors, Origins and Odyssey, introduced. It shows the new protagonist, Eivor the Viking, as they take part in large-scale battles both onland and at sea. Much of it looks very similar to Odyssey, eschewing the stealth focus of the earlier games in exchange for a bigger, brawl-ier take on combat.

One interesting change is the new skill menu, which channels major Skyrim energy by having each skill make up constellations in a star chart. It appears there are three paths, with the Raven, Bear and Wolf paths all corresponding with different skills and synergising with different "aligned gear". The Bear looks as though it is focused on brute strength, and the Wolf on stealth and archery, but the footage doesn't show anything on what the Raven entails.

I do have to admit, considering the series took 2019 off, I was kind of hoping Valhalla would have been a bigger step forward for the series, like Origins. Instead it looks like it's going to be more of an iteration on the new-Assassin's Creed formula we've seen in recent years. That isn't a bad thing, I adored both Origins and Odyssey, the huge, dense worlds they provided, and the more mythological slant on the writing they introduced. If Valhalla can take that away from the sun-baked Egypt and Greece and to the wet and muddy Medieval Britain and Scandinavia, I'm up for one more ride on this specific flavour of Assassin's Creed.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is set to launch this December, and we can expected to hear more about it (although maybe not see much more than this) at the Ubisoft Forward online showcase on July 12.
