Sweaty sleep? Cooler air is on its way to the Puget Sound region

If the heat made it hard for you to sleep Monday night, this will be welcome news: The rest of the week won’t be as hot as Monday, and cool marine air is due to roll in overnight, dropping the high temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday into the 70s.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Seattle had predicted Tuesday would be the hottest day of the week, with highs near 90. But that’s changed slightly.

Meteorologist Jacob DeFlitch said we won’t see Monday’s high of 87 degrees in Seattle again this week. Temperatures near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport hit 79 degrees just before 4 p.m. Tuesday, said weather service meteorologist Carly Kovacik.

“When you wake up tomorrow, it will be cooler,” DeFlitch said Tuesday morning.

High temperatures will be back down in the mid-70s Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with a chance of showers or drizzle each morning, Kovacik said. She predicted the weekend will be dry and slightly cloudy in the morning, though temperatures will most likely climb back into the low 80s on Saturday, Sunday and early next week.

“But humidity’s generally around 50% each afternoon for the rest of the week,” Kovacik said Tuesday afternoon. “It’s not going to feel as muggy.”
