The Detroit Lions have claimed defensive tackle Daylon Mack off of waivers, per an official report by the team on Sunday. Mack was recently waived by the Baltimore Ravens as they cut down their roster from 90 players to 80 due to new COVID training camp restrictions.
Mack was drafted by the Ravens in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL draft. He only featured in one game in his rookie year, and ended up finishing the season on injured reserve. He will now attempt to make the roster in Detroit.
Per Cover 1’s Russell Brown, Mack is a versatille defensive tackle who can play all around the defensive front, though his natural position seems to be at nose tackle.
When I spoke with Mack at the Senior Bowl a few years ago, he told me he was utilized all over the Aggies DL. Told me, “most natural position is at nose. Can also play as a shade.”

Given that Lions defensive tackle John Atkins opted out last week, Mack will slide in to the competition there with rookie draft pick John Penisini.
The team also made another move at defensive tackle, officially signing seventh-round draft selection Jashon Cornell. Cornell was the team’s final draft pick in 2020, and the third Ohio State prospect the team brought in that weekend. The Lions’ entire rookie class is now under contract.
