A three-alarm fire destroyed one home and damaged another Monday evening in San Jose, authorities said.

The blaze ignited just before 6 p.m. in a grassy area near Interstate 280 and South 11th Street, said San Jose fire Capt. Brian Palodichuk. Winds then pushed the flames into a nearby home on the 800 block of South 12th Street, destroying it.

Palodichuk said the fire was declared under control around 8 p.m., but crews were expected to remain at the scene overnight.

There were no immediate reports of any injuries.

Flames also damaged two vehicles and a home on the 800 block of South 11th Street.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
