Dine al fresco downtown

The main drag in downtown Campbell has been closed to east-west traffic to allow restaurants and retailers to expand their operation out into the street. The initial closure of a portion of Campbell Avenue is expected to last through Aug. 14 and may continue through the end of the month “if things go well enough,” according to a statement from the Downtown Campbell Business Association.

According to the association, “If it goes very well, the Campbell City Council can vote to extend it.”

In order for things to go very well, the association is asking residents to come out to support local businesses and to adhere to COVID-19 restrictions when they do.

“Enjoy our outdoor dining options responsibly,” the statement reads. “Come with just your household members and keep your social distance with everyone else. Wear a mask at all times except when you’re eating or drinking.”

The association is asking people to wear masks not just when they arrive at a business but when they’re walking along Campbell Avenue.

“Safety is going to be a large portion of whether this is judged to be successful,” the association continues. “There are a lot of people who are avoiding downtown Campbell entirely because there are too many people without masks. We need people to feel safe in our downtown so our businesses can survive.”
