Inman Square’s Bukowski Tavern has closed for good

The original location in the Back Bay remains open.

Yet another beloved watering hole has called it quits.

According to The Boston Globe, Bukowski Tavern in Inman Square has shuttered. Owner Brian Poe (Parish Café, The Tip Tap Room) told the Globe that “Bukowski Tavern was a successful bar,” but that “the pandemic took it. This is much more than a grind, and far from being a new normal.”

Poe did not respond to Boston.com’s request for comment, and a phone number for the bar has been disconnected.

While it’s unclear what might happen with the space, Cambridge Day reported that a “restaurant space available” sign was posted on the tavern, which is located at 1281 Cambridge St.

Bukowski Tavern opened in Cambridge in 2003, following in the footsteps of the original Bukowski Tavern in Boston’s Back Bay. Known for its extensive beer selection, diners frequented the watering hole for a pint and a hot dog, tater tots, or a burger. In 2014, the tavern went through an extensive renovation, adding a new stainless steel bar top, wooden tables, new light fixtures, and more.

Bukowski Tavern in the Back Bay is still open for indoor dining and takeout, and Poe told the Globe that he hopes his other Boston restaurants return soon.

“We’ll continue in a holding pattern with the Tip Tap Room and Parish Café and plan to reopen those locations when we feel it’s safe for our customers and staff,” he said.
