Chahttisgarh's Simi Karan secures all India 31st rank in UPSC exams

RAIPUR: Simi Karan, a girl from Steel City in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh has made it to the IAS securing 31st all India rank and chief minister Bhupesh Baghel has extended his wishes to the candidate and her family. Simi was a state topped in Class XII and then pursued IIT from Mumbai.
It was Simi’s first attempt in UPSC and it’s a proud moment for her family to see bright future ahead waiting for her.

Speaking to the media, Simi, 22, said that her approach towards life changed when she went to teach slum children in Mumbai once and on seeing their struggle, she decided she would contribute in changing deprived people’s life.
As her IIT exams ended in the month of May, the UPSC exams were right ahead to be attempted in June, having too less time to prepare, Simi said that she chose to work smart amid less time that helped her get success.
“As an IAS officer, I would like to mainly work towards women empowerment and education,” Simi said.
Former student of DPS Bhilai, Simi has always been a bright student, her parents said and opting Maths, she had secured 98.4 per cent in Class XII making her mark as a state topper. She cleared IIT examinations and pursued B.Tech from IIT-Mumbai.
Her father DN Karan works at Bhilai Steel Plant and mother Sujata is a teacher at DPS.
Simi was felicitated by Durg SP Prashant Thakur and collector Sarveshwar Bhure.

Four other candidates from state have made it to the all India ranking in UPSC examinations, including Umesh Prasad Gupta (AIR 162), Suthaan (AIR 209), Ayush Khare (AIR 267) and Yogesh Kumar Patel (AIR 434). CM Baghel has extended best wishes to all the rank holders from Chhattisgarh.
“All of you have made your families and the nation feel proud with your hardwork, dedication and conviction. It is the result of guidance you were provided by your teachers and mentors. I wish you all a bright future with a firm belief that you will handle the new responsibility in the service of nation with all efficiency,” Baghel tweeted.
Messages and wishes poured in for Simi and others from IAS officers and ministers on social media as Health minister TS Singhdeo tweeted, “Proud of their achievement & I wish them the best for their future endeavours.”
IAS officer Awanish Sharan also tweeted, “Congratulations Simi Karan of Bhilai, Chhattisgarh for getting AIR 31 in UPSC CSE 2019. She is B.Tech from IIT Mumbai.”
