LIVERMORE — A crash on an East Bay freeway killed a 12-year-old boy on Monday, authorities said Wednesday.

Carlos Garcia, 12, of Manteca, died at the scene Monday after a collision around 1:20 p.m. between two vehicles on westbound Interstate 580 near the Airway Boulevard exit, authorities said.

According to the CHP, Carlos was in a Chevrolet Tahoe with four other people, when it collided with a truck and tractor that were connected. The Tahoe lost control and overturned, and Carlos was ejected along with an 8-year-old, the CHP said.

That child suffered major injuries, according to the CHP, and was in stable condition at the UCSF Benioff Chidren’s Hospital in Oakland on Wednesday.

One adult and two other children in the Tahoe also survived the crash with only minor physical injuries, the CHP said. The agency originally said two adults were in the car.

The driver of the truck-tractor combination was not injured.

The CHP said it has not determined what caused the crash, and they are seeking witnesses. Anyone with information can contact them at 925-828-0466.
