Seven months after Caffe Frascati — a culture-and-coffee magnet in downtown San Jose — closed, the SoFA district’s eagerly anticipated new coffeehouse is making its debut.

Co-founders and sisters Jeronica Macey (the CEO) and Be’Anka Ashaolu (the CMO) and their team of baristas will start brewing at Nirvana Soul at 9 a.m. Saturday on South First Street.

Coffee and tea come first, and then, when coronavirus-era rules allow, the sisters plan to activate the cafe with local musicians and artists, continuing the legacy of this space.

The opening is the culmination of a long-held dream.

“Nirvana Soul had to start in downtown San Jose. We live here, we’re invested here, and it’s only right that we launch our business here,” they told the San Jose Downtown Association’s Downtown Dimensions. “With all the residents, students, and professionals, there’s just not enough going on to serve them. We’re happy to do our part in creating another something to do.”

This third-wave coffee specialist will feature single-origin beans in espresso drinks and offer an inaugural menu of sweet and savory waffles.

Daily hours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. are planned for the grand opening period.
