Doug Flutie Maximum Football 2020: Social Media Reacts To Underwhelming Gameplay Videos

Doug Flutie Maximum Football 2020 hit Xbox One in bad shape.

The game isn’t stellar even when it is working order, but the glitches that were supposed to be cleared up in a Day 1 patch were still present in the Xbox One version when it arrived on September 25.

That was the advertised release date, so the game should have been ready to go, but like many titles, there were some bugs to clear up.

One of the most egregious took place at times when you tried to run a simple handoff.

A 10-minute clip of gameplay was posted on Operation Sports’ YouTube channel, and the comments were a fairly accurate microcosm of the thoughts most fans had as they saw the game in action.

Marc Rader commented:

“Tried to get a refund from Microsoft... nope.

Live and learn.

Be a cold day in hell before I spend more money on a Maximum Football game.

Sooooo glitchy.”

“Love the tornado play at 5 minutes in. This literally happens about 3 or 4 times a game when you spectate a cpu vs cpu game. I think certain types of handoffs are broken in the game. I noticed that in the play creator many of the handoffs and pitches will fail easily.”

Jesse Stapleton wrote:

“Yeah I spent 30 bucks on it hoping it was better. But it isn't, and I played in 2 or 3 times. Just threw my money away”

I reviewed DFMF 2020 after spending a day with it and quite honestly, the fixes don’t improve the aspects of the game that were most problematic for me. It’s still visually a disaster with poor animations, overall game speed, and prehistoric sound quality.

As I’ve said repeatedly, the franchise and customization options are stellar, but that’s not enough to compensate for everything that’s wrong.

My score remains the same, but it’s fair to note that the issue with handoffs has been fixed along with a few other problems.

The best course of action for this franchise is to be bought out by a publisher that has the resources to take their concept (franchise and customization) and build upon it with a more visually appealing and playable version of American football.

Until that happens, this game will be mired in sub-mediocracy and only supported by fans whose hatred for Madden has damaged their eyesight and convinced them to tolerate a game that isn’t even as good as what most of them played 12-15 years ago.
