This article is more than 3 years old.

UFC 253 took place last night at Fight Island in Abu Dhabi. The pay-per-view fight card featured two title fights at the top of the card.

In the main event, UFC middleweight Israel Adesanya retained his title with a TKO win over Paulo Costa.

The co-main event saw Jan Blachowicz score a TKO win over Dominick Reyes to capture the vacant UFC light heavyweight title.

Also on the main card, Brandon Royval, the former LFA champion, continued his climb up the UFC flyweight rankings with a submission win over Kai Kara-France

Adesanya made things look easy. He tore up the lead leg of Costa in the first round with 15 leg kicks. He added 11 more in the second round before slipping a Costa punch and decking him with a counter. Adesanya then finished the fight with ground strikes to move his career record to 20-0 and score his second successful title defense.

Blachowicz might have fought the best fight of his career against Reyes. He mixed up his strikes throughout the fight and when he found an opening in the second round, he broke Reyes’ nose and then wrapped things up with more strikes.

The win made Blachowicz the first UFC light heavyweight champion not named Jon Jones or Daniel Cormier since 2011.

UFC 253 took place last night in Abu Dhabi. The main card streamed on ESPN+ pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN+ and ESPN2 and early prelims on ESPN+ and UFC Fight Pass.
