Two California Highway Patrol officers saved the life of a child Tuesday night in Dixon.

Just after 10:40 p.m., officers Matthew Barawed and Scott Hardman were stopped at the fruit stand on Batavia Road when a vehicle sped past them and stopped in front of their patrol car.

A frantic mother rushed her unconscious 7-year-old boy to the officers, saying he wasn’t breathing, officials said.

The officers called for an ambulance and assessed the child.

“The child was not breathing, had no pulse and was turning blue,” officials said in a statement. “Officer Hardman began CPR with the assistance of Officer Barawed. The officers performed CPR until the arrival of emergency medical personnel.

“During that time officers were able to get a pulse and the child began breathing. After the arrival of emergency medical services, the child began to recover…”

The boy was transported to Kaiser Permanente Vacaville Medical Center for further treatment.
