Another round of wind and rain on Tuesday, then a drier stretch

It is October, so this much isn’t a surprise: The rain that swept through Seattle this weekend is going to return Tuesday. But the weather should clear out for at least a couple of days after that, according to the National Weather Service in Seattle.

Monday should be mostly dry, said meteorologist Jacob DeFlitch, but then the third of three shower systems drifting east from the Pacific is expected to make for a “blustery, rainy Tuesday” in the Puget Sound region.

“There’s nothing exceptional about the amount (of rainfall) we’ve seen so far,” meteorologist Maddie Kristell said Sunday. “It’s pretty standard for the time of year.”

The weather service predicts that the rest of the week will bring a mix of showers and patchy sunshine, with Thursday being mostly dry.

The upcoming wind and rain aren’t expected to cause local flooding and hazards, the weather service says, but this being the year 2020, the standard cautions might apply more than usual.

On Saturday night, a Washington state passenger ferry was struck by lightning near the dock in Edmonds, The Associated Press reported. No one was injured, but the navigation system was affected, so the ferry will remain out of service until it’s repaired.

A brief tornado reported in Grays Harbor County early Saturday may have been responsible for knocking down about 10 trees of up to 2 feet in diameter onto Moclips Highway. The trees have been cleared.

Weather service radar detected rotations consistent with a tornado 5 miles southwest of Neilton at 4:40 a.m. Saturday. Winds peaked at 90 miles per hour, making it an EF-1 tornado — the second-weakest on a six-point scale used to describe the strength of tornadoes — according to the weather service. A tornado warning lasted from 4:40 to 5 a.m. Saturday.

“It was fairly short-lived, about two scans probably at best on the radar,” Kristell said Sunday.
