Athens Bound, Gators Continue Fall Swing at Bulldog Invitational

Women's tennis resumes fall slate with multi-team tournament at Georgia

Freshman Sara Dahlstrom looks to build on fast start to college career.
GAINESVILLE, Fla.– Playing in its second tournament of the fall season, the University of Florida women's tennis team returns to the courts this weekend, Oct. 23-25, when it travels to the Bulldog Invitational hosted by the University of Georgia.

Four Gators will compete against student-athletes from Georgia, South Carolina and Kentucky in this multi-team event comprised only of SEC squads. The Gators are set to take on a different team each day.

Back in August the SEC announced newly established start dates and formats for women's and men's tennis. As a reminder, teams are able to compete in up to three team events and teams are limited to events involving only SEC members or non-conference team from the institution's geographic region.

Veterans McCartney Kessler, Sydney Berlin and Marlee Zein are all set to compete along with first-year player Sara Dahlstrom.

The Gators kickoff competition Friday with doubles and singles matches against South Carolina. Play begins at 9 a.m. ET with doubles with singles immediately following.

After battling the Gamecocks, Florida battles the host Georgia Bulldogs, a unit it squared off with at the SEC Challenge.

The event wraps up Sunday for UF, when it takes on competitors from the Kentucky Wildcats.

Despite a limited roster, UF achieved great success in its lone action of the fall season. Competing at the SEC Challenge, Oct. 9-11, alongside Alabama, Kentucky, Georgia and Mississippi State, the Gators were dominant in doubles, posting five wins compared to just one loss. The experienced tandem of Zein and Kessler posted an unblemished 3-0 record and claimed the tournament's doubles championship. On the singles circuit, Florida registered five victories. A pair of those wins came courtesy of the rookie Dahlstrom, who in addition to the success of UF's elder statesmen, played a key role in the team's production as she collected two singles wins and two doubles victories. UF capped off the weekend by winning all five of its matchups on Sunday against the Wildcats.
