Trump, Biden To Discuss Legalized Marijuana Or Psychedelics? Presidential Debate Oddsmakers Chime In

This article is more than 3 years old.

Advocates for the expansion of the legalized cannabis industry exhaled a collective sigh of relief when Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris directly stated that her party would “will decriminalize marijuana and we will expunge the records of those who have been convicted of marijuana.”

This statement, combined with Biden’s current lead over President Trump in nearly every national poll, saw cannabis markets surge in the days following the debate.

Presidential elections have become a new hot commodity at sportsbooks, and in response to the buzz generated by Kamala Harris’ comments in regards to marijuana, oddsmakers have set lines on the chance either cannabis or psychedelics will hit the debate floor tonight.

Will "marijuana" or "psychedelics" be said be either candidate?

  • Yes +150
  • No -200

The topic of decriminalizing marijuana was also directly mentioned in July 8th’s Biden-Sanders Unity Task Force document, which called for the cannabis to be both federally rescheduled and decriminalized.

The impact of this release was felt throughout the industry, with TheDalesReport.com reporting that both Trulieve Cannabis and Curaleaf Holdings enjoyed their highest numbers of the calendar year.

“Early investors in the industry have to feel positive given the latest polling results,” shared Benjamin A. Smith, senior reporter at TheDalesReport. “As Biden’s lead continues to grow, along with the prospect of the Democratic party taking over both the House and Senate, anticipation for this market to explode has never been higher.”

While Harris did address the topic head-on in the debate, Smith doesn’t anticipate the topic coming up again in tonight’s final Presidential Debate.

“Given that Kamala Harris already addressed the cannabis legalization issue in the Vice Presidential debate, I believes Joe Biden will steer clear of the topic tonight. The same holds true for Donald Trump, who will likely focus his energy on attacking Biden and winning on macro policy initiatives that are more pressing for voters. At this point, psychedelics legalization for medical purposes isn't on each candidate's radar at this time.”

Our Pick: Bet ‘No’ at -200
