As the senior vice president of design and creative director of legacy textile brand Stark, Ashley Stark Kenner is well versed in the ins and outs of design. So when it came time to remodel her own home in New York, which she shares with her husband Nick and their three children, she had no shortage of design references to pull from and ideas at the ready. The resulting town house, which was gut-renovated with the help of Lichten Architects and is the subject of the latest episode of AD Visits, is an ode to custom design, intricate craft, and contemporary art.

The attention to detail starts at the entry, where a steel-and-glass door sets the scene. Just inside, a “jewel-box mudroom,” as Kenner describes it in the video, features built-in cabinets that are tailor-made for the family. “Everybody gets their own cabinet for their coats and their own drawer for their shoes,” she explains. Continuing into the dining room, one can see the high-quality craftsmanship manifest in beautiful pieces, like the custom oak dining table with brass strips that hide the table leaves and the antique Jansen chairs that were reupholstered in a cozy bouclé.

The feeling of warm luxury these spaces exude continues throughout the house, appearing in the muted bedroom—done up in soft colors and wrapped in a hemp wall covering by Maya Romanoff—and the grand living room, which features three distinct seating areas for maximum lounge-ability. “I had a vision, and I stuck with it,” Kenner told AD for a feature on the home that appeared in the November issue. Sure enough, the fully executed vision is a sight to behold.
