SAN JOSE – A pedestrian died after being hit by a vehicle on southbound Highway 87 in San Jose late Monday, authorities said.

The collision was reported just before 8:40 p.m. in the third and fourth lanes of the highway south of Julian Street, said Officer Ross Lee of the California Highway Patrol.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision stopped and remained at the scene, said Lee, adding that investigators believe the pedestrian was possibly hit by additional vehicles.

The third and fourth lanes were closed for more than two hours as a result of the collision.
