Q’Orianka Kilcher has joined Channing Tatum’s Dog.
The Yellowstone star will play Niki in the MGM road comedy, a former partner of Army Ranger Briggs, played by Tatum, who also co-directs the film with his longtime creative partner, Reid Carolin.
Dog tracks two hard-charging former Army Rangers paired against their will — Briggs and Lulu, a Belgian Malinois — as they race down the Pacific coast in hopes of making it to a fellow soldier’s funeral on time. Along the way, they drive each other crazy, confront the possibility that pet psychics are real, and begin to reckon with the one thing they were trained never to do: surrender.
The script was written by Carolin based on a story by Carolin and Brett Rodriguez.
Kilcher’s character is also a nurse and the mother of Briggs’ 3-year-old daughter. While there is still a lot of love between the former partners, Niki has raised their child on her own and is not ready for Briggs to come back into her life, as she knows the issues he’s working on.
Kilcher’s big break came at age 14 when she starred as Pocahontas opposite Colin Farrell and Christian Bale in Terrence Malick’s The New World. She also appeared on TNT’s The Alienist as Mary Palmer, Laszlo Kreisler’s (Daniel Bruhl) mute housekeeper turned lover.
Kilcher is repped by APA, Anonymous Content and Eric Feig.
