Everything You Need To Know About ‘Fortnite’ Season 5: Map Changes, Patch Notes, Baby Yoda And More

Following
This article is more than 3 years old.

Fortnite ended its fourth season of Chapter 2 with a bang. Or, well, with a “bang” I suppose. The big, hotly-anticipated Galactus event was kind of a letdown. A massive, gargantuan disappointment actually. I wasn’t in the event but I watched it and was pretty nonplussed. Epic has done much better, more interesting live events with less fanfare in the past.

In any case, Season 5 starts later today once Fortnite servers are back up and running and Season 5 is a bounty hunter themed season starring everybody’s favorite dad, Mando, and his protege, Baby Yoda.

It’s not a Star Wars season, thankfully. The rest of the Battle Pass skins appear to be bounty hunters unique to the Fortnite universe, including one pancake-head hunter, which is cool.

Season 5 doesn’t give us a completely new map, but there are a bunch of map changes, including the addition of both desert and jungle biomes, making the Chapter 2 map a little more like the Chapter 1 map, and a little bit more interesting.

Here’s the new map:

New Named Locations

  • Salty Towers
  • Hunter’s Haven
  • Stealthy Stronghold
  • Colossal Coliseum

Some locations are also gone, including the Flotilla (which was already much-diminished in Season 4) and Doom’s Domain, which has reverted to Pleasant Park. The Ruins (formerly the Authority and the Agency) has become the Zero Point.

A number of new unnamed Points Of Interest are also scattered across the map, though we’ll need to spend some time exploring to find out what these are.

Patch Notes

There are no official patch notes, but Epic did send out an email describing the new season and its interesting new mechanics, including a new challenge system built around bounties. Here’s the full email Epic sent to content creators and journalists:

The Hunt is On

The Zero Point is exposed, but no one escapes the Loop, not on your watch. Join Agent Jones and the greatest hunters from across Realities like The Mandalorian in a chaotic battle that will shape the future of the Island...

New Hunting Grounds

New hunters means new locations from beyond the Loop. Battle for honor in an ancient arena, sharpen your survival skills in the jungle, and explore the shifting crystalline sands flowing from the exposed Zero Point.

Help for Hire

As a hunter, it’s your duty to help the Island’s Characters in their unstable new reality. Take on their quests and bounties, get intel on your surroundings, or hire them to be your ally. Don’t want to negotiate? Challenge them to a duel and reap the rewards.

Spend Your Wages

The new Characters only accept one form of payment: Bars! Earn Bars by completing quests and bounties, eliminating players, or finding hidden stashes around the Island. Spend your earned Bars on new Exotic weapons, upgrades, intel, services and more.

New Weapons, New Tricks

New weapons let you attack in novel ways. Unleash your fiery rage with the Dragon’s Breath Shotgun, switch between melee and ranged with the Mandalorian’s Amban Sniper Rifle, track your target with the Night Hawk, and more. Hunters and vendors are also working to bring you more weapons throughout the season, so keep an eye out!

All-New Battle Pass

Agent Jones has brought in the greatest Hunters across Realities to the Island. Pick up the Season 5 Battle Pass and unlock Mancake the fighting Flapjack, Mave the shapeshifter and the ultimate bounty hunter, The Mandalorian, with his companion The Child.

Who’s Next?

The hunters on the Island are only the first to arrive from outside the Loop... Throughout the Season, Agent Jones will bring in even more hunters from the Realities beyond. Who will be next?

So that’s . . . a lot.

I’ll update this post as more comes to light when servers are live once again and we can dig through all the new stuff—and new bounties/challenges—so stay tuned to Forbes Games and this blog and thanks for reading!
