A YouTube engineer has made a plea deal to avoid prosecution in an LSD-fueled rampage last year during a Bodega Bay vacation getaway, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

In Sonoma County Superior Court on Wednesday, Betai Koffi, 33, of San Francisco, pleaded no contest to charges including assault with a deadly weapon. Charges of attempted murder were dropped.

He will be sentenced in February, his attorney told the Chronicle.

After he injured eight people, Koffi was shot by a sheriff’s deputy, and he remains partly paralyzed.

The bizarre incident on July 4, 2019, began in a vacation house where Koffi was staying with five friends.

He had reportedly taken four doses of LSD and was “delusional,” according to a report from the sheriff’s office. When his friends tried to stop him from leaving the house, he punched two of them, choked one and stabbed one with a pencil.

Outside the house, he allegedly stabbed a security guard with the stake of a garden light, stole the guard’s truck and struck three pedestrians.

When law officers arrived, he drove the truck toward them, and a deputy shot him through the windshield.

None of the injuries to his victims was considered life-threatening, the sheriff’s report said.

His attorney told the Chronicle that Koffi has returned to his job at YouTube and is “remorseful about the harm he caused.”
