Yesterday, Capcom held a Resident Evil Showcase on YouTube and used it to reveal fresh details about both Resident Evil Village and a brand-new online multiplayer game called Resident Evil Re:Verse.

Resident Evil Village is the next entry in the Resident Evil survival horror games from Capcom. We've known of its existence for months, but a new trailer and the all-important release date were announced during the showcase.

The good news is, Village will be available to play the same day on all platforms except Switch. Capcom is releasing the game on May 7 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and Steam. Purchasing the game on PS4 gets you a free digital upgrade to the PS5 version, and Xbox One players get the same deal using Microsoft's Smart Delivery feature.

Capcom has released a new and free demo called Maiden for the PS5, which functions as a side story taking place in the same Resident Evil Village world. You can play it without ruining the main game story and take the role of a different character to make it a unique, separate experience.

There's also good news for those of you who like online play. Capcom is celebrating Resident Evil's 25th anniversary and has decided to release a new online multiplayer game called Resident Evil Re:Verse. It features "fan-favorite characters clashing across familiar locales in the Resident Evil universe" and will be free to access for anyone buying a copy of Village.

Several versions of Resident Evil Village are being made available for purchase. Alongside the Standard Edition there's a Digital Deluxe and Collector's Edition. Digital Deluxe includes "multiple bonus items, including a Samurai Edge weapon, an option to replace the save room music and the typewriters you save on with the music and tape recorder from Resident Evil 7 biohazard, and other bonuses." The Collector's Edition builds on that by adding "a Chris Redfield statue, poster, art book, and SteelBook case in a special Collector’s Edition box." Capcom is also offering a bundle containing Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 7.
