SAN JOSE – Firefighters on Friday night were contending with an ammonia spill at the Kellogg’s facility in San Jose.

The spill was reported about 3:40 p.m. at 475 Eggo Way. People were asked to avoid the area or shelter in place if nearby. Eggo Way at East Julian Street and Wooster Avenue was also closed.

One person was assessed at the scene and released, the San Jose Fire Department said in a tweet. No other injuries were reported.

Shortly after 8 p.m., the fire department announced the incident was under control.

“The leak has been contained, and police units are opening the surrounding streets,” the fire department said.
