OAKLAND — A 32-year-old woman was shot early Monday morning while she was riding in a car in West Oakland, authorities said.

The man driving was not injured and the woman was in stable condition, authorities said.

The shooting, which was recorded by ShotSpotter, happened at about 2:12 a.m. Monday in the 1000 block of Chestnut Street, a primarily residential area.

The car the two were in was hit several times by gunfire and the woman was wounded once. Police have not yet said if the shots were fired from another vehicle or by someone on the street. More than a dozen shell casings were found on the street, authorities said.

The man was able to drive to another location in West Oakland before the vehicle became disabled.  Another person gave the two a ride to a hospital where police were notified.

Police have not yet determined a motive for the shooting and have not made any arrests.
