A one-car crash Wednesday on a scenic, rural road in Port Costa killed a 64-year-old Vallejo man, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened on Carquinez Scenic Drive, west of Canyon Lake Drive, when a gray Dodge Grand Caravan going north went over the edge of the road, down an embankment and into a tree, the CHP said. He was not wearing his seat belt, according to the agency, and was ejected from the car.

The man’s identity was not released Thursday morning, pending notification of his relatives.

The CHP said it is investigating to determine why the car left the roadway, and that they don’t know at this point whether the man was impaired. He died at the scene.

Anyone who may have seen the car before the crash or who may have any information about it can contact the CHP’s Contra Costa office at 925-646-4980.
