Sister Parish and Parsons Unveil Collaboration

The fruits of a monthslong partnership between the MFA textiles program at Parsons School of Design and Sister Parish Design are finally here. “The collaboration has explored the future of craftsmanship, how we can reimagine what ‘Made in America’ means today, and what it takes to create and train the next generation of craftspeople in America,” Susan Crater, Sister Parish’s granddaughter, says to AD PRO of the line of textile design products. “We have learned so much from the very talented and inspiring students, not only about exciting technology, but also about how the love of past techniques and practices can fuel the ideas of the future. It has been an extremely energizing and inspiring collaboration from start to finish.”

Exciting Mirrors and the Lights Debut

Natalie Erwin has launched a new mirror brand, fittingly titled Fleur. Products from the three collections, which are named Garden District, Audubon, and Carnival, already have the stamp of approval from the likes of Nicky Hilton Rothschild. The designs, which have been created alongside Riley Sheehey, are available to purchase through Over the Moon.

Elsewhere, AD100 firm Commune has continued its longterm collaboration Remains Lighting in the form of a new collection inspired by the Viennese Secession. The influences of French 1950s style and the Milanese modernist movement can also be traced in these fixtures, as can Commune’s signature sense of California design.

1stdibs Shares Its Latest 1stdibs 50 List—Including 27 New Honorees

1stdibs’s annual 1stdibs 50 List, a who’s who of the design world, has been released. Notably, it features 27 individuals who are new to the group. “Interior designers have long been core to everything we do at 1stdibs,” Anthony Barzilay Freund, editorial director and director of fine art at 1stdibs, says to AD PRO. “It’s their remarkable skill and vision that brings to life the myriad objects found on the website. The projects we’ve selected for this year’s 1stdibs 50—many of which seem to speak to the ways COVID-19 has transformed daily living—demonstrate the crucial role designers play not only in fostering beauty but also in creative problem-solving.”

Mass MoCA, Snarkitecture, and Hästens Make Announcements

Mass MoCA, the popular arts destination in Western Massachusetts, is getting a James Turrell Skyspace. The popular type of Turrell work will officially open at the museum in late May.

Next week, Snarkitecture’s latest project will open to the public. The retail concept for fashion brand Kith is located in Paris. In addition to giving a contemporary twist to traditional French architecture, the boutique will bring a taste of New York to the City of Lights thanks to a brand new in-store branch of Sadelle’s.

Last but certainly not least, Hästens has opened a showroom and sleep spa in the Miami Design District. Hopefully, once Design Miami can function unencumbered and IRL, the showroom will be perfectly positioned to help welcome industry guests.
