Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Women’s DIOR AW21 Collection Is All About Feminine Strength

From Château de Versailles’ Hall of Mirrors, Maria Grazia Chiuri has made a collection steeped in Dior history, exploring the world of fairytales. Chiuri is known for delving into fantasy and the spiritual side of life in her collections. Her autumn-winter 2021 women’s ready-to-wear collection enchants a fantasy world where there’s no way to escape. Tickling with the idea of a network of symbols that challenge stereotypes, Chiuri has taken us to a faraway world of feminine magic on this International Women’s Day, paving the way of awareness that women have the audacious spirit in their sartorial lifestyle to rise above.

Known for diving into the Christian Dior House archives, Chiuri paid tribute to one of Monsieur Dior’s secret weapons, female illustrator Andrée Brossin de Méré, who designed all of his prints.

The debut of the collection was shot in darkness in the Hall of Mirrors, giving a mysterious feel. Silhouettes with long and calf-length hems grazed the runway with a color palette ranging from black- made in many looks from skirts to the Bar jacket with Dior’s iconic cannage motif some fitted with a hood- to whites, dark blues, reds, and khakis. Daywear and evening wear are a part of the collection with long gowns of warm bold but not bright colors. Chiuri has taken the tin soldier’s uniform and created a series of blue cashmere coats, enhanced with red and white accents.

With the collection being presented in a dark room, filled with fairy tale inferences, and the aesthetic that Chiuri has created, helps women be aware of their own feminine strength.
