Exciting New Advances In Rainwear Prepare For April Showers 2021

This article is more than 3 years old.

History of Rainwear:

The year 1824 marked a turning point for rainwear. At the time, Scottish chemist Charles Macintosh developed a patent for what he described as “India Rubber Cloth” that essentially melded together rubber and naphtha. From that point forward, rainwear was born. Before long, Macintosh developed a fabric to protect the wearer from rain. But, back then, raincoats were liable to make the body perspire when worn. Alas, London manufacturer George Spill discovered a solution by inserting metal eyelets under the armpits; these eyelets are still being used today in traditional models.

The Trench Coat:

During World War I, Thomas Burberry made a weatherproof coat for the officers who were fighting in the trenches at that time. Back then, the coats were made from a fine-twilled cotton gabardine that was put through a chemical process to repel water while allowing the fabric to breathe. The "trench coat" was not completely waterproof, but was effectively water resistant.

Modified Rainwear:

These days, raincoat fabrications and styles have changed drastically. Today, the trench coat may be paired with any piece for a casual or elegant look. In fact, product offerings today include a wide-range of colors, in contrast to the stodgy colors of yesteryear. Advances in fiber and fabric technology, including surface treatments of fabrics, have made modern raincoats more lightweight and water-repellent than ever before. Today, luxury designers seemingly take the contemporary aesthetic, blending streamlined shapes and distinguished detail to give rainwear a flair of modernity.

Here, a few chosen luxury designers and brands have a new take on an essential wardrobe piece. It is a much-needed renaissance in rainwear. The refined look is enhanced by how the wearer wished to style it. In short, the new trench coat and rainwear product offerings may be paired with any piece for a casual or elegant look to keep you warm and dry as April showers approach.
