SAN JOSE — An 81-year-old man died Saturday after being struck by a car while riding a bike in East San Jose, police said Monday.

Just before 1 p.m. Saturday, the driver of a Lexus RX3 SUV made a right turn from westbound Tully Road onto northbound McLaughlin Avenue and collided with the bicyclist, who was also westbound on Tully, police said in a statement Monday.

The Lexus then hit another SUV that was northbound on McLaughlin, police said.

The bicyclist — identified by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office as To Le of San Jose — was taken to a hospital, where he died just after 6:30 p.m., police said. The drivers of the two SUVs were not injured.

Police said the incident marked the sixth fatal collision in the city so far in 2021. It was the second time a bicyclist was killed in a collision this year.

It’s unclear if the driver of the Lexus will be charged with any crime. The driver cooperated with police after the collision and was not arrested, a police spokesperson said Monday.

“At the conclusion of the investigation the findings will be submitted to the (Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office),” Sgt. Christian Camarillo said in an email. “They will decide if any charges are filed.”

Police urged anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Garcia of the San Jose Police Department’s Traffic Investigations Unit at 408-277-4654.
