Naomi Osaka and her sister Mari Osaka are auctioning off their inaugural art collection as NFTs exclusively on Basic.Space.

Besides tennis, the Osaka sisters are known for their love of drawing, art and fashion. Now they are using those talents in the very popular world of NFTs. Mari created five digital artworks: “My Crown, My Halo”, “Vibrance of the Clouds”, “I’m Not Your Robot”, “The Girl Who Smiles” and “The Unsuspecting Player”. The retired WTA player used color to depict Naomi’s personality and character.

Bidding is available to the public for seven days, until 8:59 am PT Friday, April 23. Moreover, each winner will receive a signed Yonex tennis racquet from Naomi.

As I’m writing this, each of the five pieces of art has reached the price from $25,500 to $28,000.

NFTs are slowly taking over the tennis world. First, Croatian player Oleksandra Oliynykova auctioned off a spot on her skin as NFT and then American Jessica Pegula released her own NFT digital trading cards. Now world No.2 Naomi Osaka is entering this skyrocketing market.

What are NFTs?

NFT stands for a non-fungible token, which is essentially a unique digital item that can represent digital files such as art, audio, videos, items in video games and other forms of creative work. For example, it is a signed image of a tennis player, which is unique, and you have a digital proof of origin. NFTs are essentially part of the cryptocurrency world, but unlike let’s say Bitcoin, they are not mutually interchangeable because each one is specific, in other words, they are not fungible.
