PUNE: The state education board’s decision to cancel SSC examination this year has thrown up several questions including who will give the mark sheet to students. There are other issues such as how will these students apply for the Union government or state services without a mark sheet from the state board.
Top education department officials are also trying to address the more immediate concern regarding First Year Junior College (FYJC) admissions as well as ITI and Polytechnic admissions.

A senior official said cancellation of exams has triggered several questions and solutions are being discussed. “If the state board is not conducting the examination, then how can it give a mark sheet? If the state board doesn’t give a mark sheet, then who will? Students can apply for many services in the state and Union government after SSC, but a mark sheet is required. Then there are a plethora of problems for FYJC admissions,” he said, adding a decision would be taken soon.
Experts are of the view that each of the eight centralised admission committees should conduct their own online entrance examination for FYJC admission. They have also suggested that the board declare a formula to assess performance based on results of the last three years.
“Discussions were held today with senior officers of the school education department and the State Board Examination Advisory Committee regarding various options with respect to Class XI admission. Various stakeholders will be consulted to reach a fair and just decision,” Varsha Gaikwad, state school education minister, tweeted.
