Just as it did against Valley Christian, Los Gatos got off to a sizzling start against Palo Alto — five runs in the first inning, three more in the second.

The Wildcats, playing at home, kept rolling Wednesday on their way to a 17-5 victory over their Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division rival.

The game did not count in the league standings — the teams meet twice in league play next month — but it gave Los Gatos (3-2) bragging rights until the rematch.

Shane Doty, who just joined the baseball team after helping Los Gatos go undefeated in football, and Aidan Lazovsky each drove in four runs for the Wildcats. Antonio Nanez doubled twice and was among four Los Gatos players with two hits. The others were Kai Hori, Michael Splaine and Lazovsky.

Aidan Berger had a hit and drove in three runs and Hayden Jung-Goldberg had two hits for Palo Alto, which lost at Valley Christian 3-1 on Saturday.

For Los Gatos, ranked seventh by the Bay Area News Group, it has been a feast-or-famine start.

In their three wins, the Wildcats have scored 41 runs — 13-3 over Valley Christian, 11-7 over Los Altos and the eruption Wednesday.

In their two losses, they have scored five runs — 5-4 in 10 innings at St. Francis and 4-1 on Saturday at Leigh.

Palo Alto, ranked fifth, fell to 4-2.

Nevarez, who didn’t allow a hit after the Spartans’ Joey Donnelly lead off with a single, is committed to San Diego State as an outfielder.
