Cyberpunk 2077 Is Coming Back to PlayStation Store, Even Though It's Still Busted

Cyberpunk 2077
Owners of Sony game consoles will have another way to get Cyberpunk 2077 soon. Developer CD Projekt Red announced this week that the game will return to the PlayStation Store(Opens in a new window) after being pulled more than six months ago. If you were hoping for vastly improved performance, don't hold your breath.  In case you've been living under a rock for the last eight years, Cyberpunk 2077 has been one of the most anticipated games in history. CD Projekt Red (CDPR) was coming off a huge success with The Witcher 3, which is still one of the best games ever made, in my opinion. CDPR was promising Cyberpunk would put players in the middle of a vibrant, interactive metropolis, and the early demos and highlight reels made Night City look incredible. The reality was much less impressive, though.  The game's performance was so bad at launch that previous-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles could barely limp along. On the PC side, even moderately powerful video cards were unable to run all the eye candy. The performance was so bad on the PlayStation 4 that Sony decided to pull the game from its online store until the developer had patched it. You could still buy the PS4 version elsewhere, but it was nonetheless a blow to CDPR.  Sony says the PS5 is the preferred way to play Cyberpunk. Good luck finding one. After months of toiling, getting hacked, and being mocked mercilessly with memes, CDPR says Cyberpunk 2077 is coming back to the PlayStation Store. So, is it fixed? Not so much! The game has seen a few performance and bug fixes over the last few months, but it's not a complete turn-around. In fact, Sony says the game will still run poorly on the PlayStation 4, which was the entire reason for pulling it from the store in the first place. If you want to play the game on Sony's platform, the company recommends the PS4 Pro or a PS5, the latter of which is only slightly easier to buy than a high-end video card.  Cyberpunk 2077 will be available on the PlayStation Store this coming Monday, June 21. CDPR didn't specify a price, but the physical version is regularly available for $20, down from $60 at launch. For my money, it's not worth bothering with Cyberpunk 2077 right now. The game is still buggy and hollow, and that won't change in the space of a few months. There's so much missing from the game that I doubt we'll see any substantive improvements until CDPR has had time to roll out some DLC content. Now read:
