Saint Mary’s is extending a father-son pipeline from San Francisco to Moraga. Augustus Marciulionis, the son of basketball Hall of Famer and former Warriors star Sarunas Marciulionis, has signed a letter of intent for the upcoming season, coach Randy Bennett announced Wednesday.

“Augustas comes from a family with a strong basketball background and has played at a high level internationally, beginning at a young age,” Bennett said in a statement. “He is a talented point guard with great vision and has the ability to make everyone around him better. We look forward to him joining our program later this summer.”

Marciulionis, the 19-year-old native of Vilnius, Lithuania, played last season in the Lithuanian Basketball League and is a member of the U19 Lithuanian National Team. The 6-foot-4 playmaker is currently training for the U19 FIBA World Cup that begins in July. In 45 games last year, Marciulionis averaged 5 points on 44% shooting, including 33% from 3-point range, 2.3 assists and 1.4 rebounds.

His father Sarunas, who was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014, played for the Warriors from 1989-93, when he averaged 14.7 points and 2.8 rebounds over four seasons. His hall of fame induction was contingent mostly on his Olympics and FIBA success. Sarunas won Gold with the Soviet Union during the 1988 games in Seoul and a Bronze medal playing with Lithuania in the 1992 games in Barcelona and 1996 games in Atlanta.

Saint Mary’s last season went 14-10, placing seventh in the WCC. In addition to Marciulionis, the Gaels will add San Marcos, CA, four-star recruit Chris Howell.
