Warriors guard Damion Lee and wife Sydel Curry-Lee are expecting their first child in November, the couple announced on social media Wednesday.
“Lee for 3!,” Lee wrote in a tweet announcing the baby.
“Baby Lee coming at you November 2021!” Curry-Lee wrote in an Instagram post, along with a photograph of the couple.
Curry-Lee is the younger sister of Warriors star — and Lee’s teammate — Stephen Curry and current Philadelphia 76ers guard Seth Curry, as well as the daughter of former NBA player Dell Curry. She and Lee were married in September 2018.
While Lee has earned his place in an NBA rotation and the Lee and Curry families are very close, he has in the past tried to distance himself from being known just as “Steph’s brother-in-law” by refusing to answer questions about their relationship in a public setting.
The couple appeared last month on the Warriors’ Beyond 28 podcast with Marc J. Spears and spoke about how they support each other’s mental health.
“Being away from each other is our usual — we rely heavily on FaceTime calls and just being in the presence of each other, hearing each other’s voice through FaceTime is super important to us,” Curry-Lee said.
Lee said that the time spent together during the pandemic allowed the couple to find new shared interests.
“It’s just dope to want to know what your spouse is doing, but then it’s another level to be interested in it, and then it’s even better to take part in it,” Lee said, citing skincare and gaming as their shared hobbies. “Then it’s really seamless. It shows that you care how they’re feeling.”
The 28-year-old Lee signed in 2017 with the Warriors’ G League affiliate in Santa Cruz. A year later, he was added to Golden State’s roster. In January 2020, Lee was promoted from his two-way contract to the Warriors’ 15-man roster. He averaged 6.5 points on 47% shooting in 57 games before sitting out the remainder of last season after contracting the coronavirus in April, even after he was vaccinated.
Curry-Lee is a standout athlete in her own right, named the 2016 MVP of the Elon University volleyball team while leading the Phoenix in assists her junior year.
Lee’s contract is non-guaranteed for next season but he appears likely to remain with the team beyond his child’s due date. With such athletic genes, it would not at all be surprising if Lee and Curry-Lee’s child carried on the line of basketball players.
