OAKLAND — An El Cerrito man was fatally shot while driving and two people were wounded at a homeless camp in shootings that happened less than five hours apart Wednesday night in different areas of West Oakland, authorities said.

The name of the 25-year-old man killed has not yet been released.

Police said he was found shot about 11:04 p.m. Wednesday inside a car that crashed in the 1200 block of Peralta Street near 13th Street.

He was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Investigators believe the man may have been in Oakland to visit someone.

A motive for the shooting has not been determined yet and no arrests have been made.

The killing is the 58th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year.  Last year at this time police had investigated 32 homicides in the city.

Earlier, at about 6:40 p.m., a 44-year-old woman and a 57-year-old man were shot at a homeless camp in the 600 block of 23rd Street just east of Martin Luther King Jr. Way in the city’s Hoover-Foster neighborhood.  Police have not said if the two lived at the camp or were visiting someone there.

The woman was found shot in the leg and was taken to a hospital where she was in stable condition. The man showed up later at a hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and was in critical but stable condition, authorities said.

Police have not released a motive yet for the shooting but said as many as three suspects were seen running from the area.  No arrests have been made. About 20 shell casings were recovered at the scene and at least one parked vehicle was hit by gunfire but no other injures were reported.

At the scene, Algea Hamlin, 59, told this news organization the victim was “her sister,” a friend she had made through local food-outreach campaigns.

“I know people shouldn’t be shot when these people don’t know who the hell they’re shooting, I know that for sure,” Hamlin said.

The camp has been the scene of other shootings and acts of violence in the past, including homicides.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $10,000 in reward money in both the homicide and double shooting for information leading to the arrests of the suspects.  Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-3426 or 510-238-7950 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
