Top seed Mitty rallies in the final inning against Los Gatos, walks into the CCS Division I final

Valley Christian’s closing in on a fourth straight title after rolling past Palo Alto

Division II

No. 8 Sequoia 5, No. 4 Leland 2

JP Boyle broke up a scoreless game with a two-out, two-run homer in the top of the fifth as eighth-seeded Sequoia continued to surprise.

Sequoia then added three more in the sixth. Kai Holm, who was 3-for-3, singled home one run and Max McLellan knocked in two more with another single.

Oliver Montclare picked up the win. He came out in the sixth after walking the first two Leland hitters. Cole Kenyon worked the final two innings for the save, pitching out of bases-loaded jams in both frames.

Sequoia appears to have been a little underseeded, as it will take a 22-3 record into Saturday’s title game against San Benito  Leland ends the season with a 13-12 mark. 

No. 2 San Benito 2, No. 3 Mountain View 0

San Benito scored single runs in the third and fifth innings, and made it stand up. Mountain View had a 7-4 edge in hits but stranded nine baserunners. The Spartans didn’t help their cause by hitting into two double plays.

“We just couldn’t get any runs,” Mountain View coach Kris Sims said.

Junior Chase Yocum went the distance for Mountain View, allowing four hits, walking ione and striking out two. He threw just 84 pitches.

San Benito will take a 17-9 record into the championship game Saturday. Mountain View finished 15-6.

Division III

No. 4 Los Altos 12, No. 8 Santa Cruz 0 

Aaron Parker drove in six runs with a grand slam and three singles, and Colby Cook pitched a five-inning no-hitter as Los Altos flew into Saturday’s Division III championship game against Burlingame.

Parker, a catcher bound for UC-Santa Barbara, played shortstop Wednesday. He increased his season average to .557 (39-for-70) and drove in four or more runs in a game for the sixth time this spring. The homer was his 11th.

Cook allowed only one walk while striking out eight. He also drove in three runs.

The mercy rule was imposed after Santa Cruz batted in the top of the fifth. Los Altos (14-11) put up a crooked number in all four innings it batted. Santa Cruz finished the year 15-9.

No. 6 Burlingame 8, No. 2 Aragon 2

Burlingame exploded for six runs in the fifth after falling behind 2-0 on a pair of solo home runs by Aragon’s Jace Jeremiah.

Johnny Suarez belted a three-run homer for the Panthers, who are 17-9 for the season. Dexter Quisol kept the inning going with a two-out double.

Junior Noah Larkin, Burlingame’s 6-3 left-hander, went the distance. He allowed four hits and didn’t walk anyone.

Aragon finishes the season at 17-8.

Division IV

No. 1 Palma 8, No. 4 Willow Glen 7

Palma rolled to a 5-0 lead after two innings, but Willow Glen stormed back with six runs in the third. Palma answered with three runs in the home half of the third, and there was only one run after that, by Willow Glen in the sixth. Willow Glen finished 15-13.

Top-seeded Palma (12-7-1) will host No. 6-seed Leigh in the final on Saturday at 3 p.m. Leigh (14-9) toppled No. 2 seed Christopher 8-0. Christopher ended the year at 12-6.

Division V

Third-seeded Pacific Grove scored two runs in the fifth and held on to beat No. 2 seed Ann Sobrato 2-1 in a mild upset. Pacific Grove is 7-12 while Sobrato went 15-7.

In the other Division V matchup, No. 8 Gilroy ended The King’s Academy’s season with a 4-2 win. Gilroy (4-7) will visit Pacific Grove on Saturday at 11 a.m. for the championship.

Division VI

No. 1 Stevenson 3, No. 4 Thomas More 2

Stevenson scored all three runs in the bottom of the sixth after Thomas More had taken a 2-0 lead in the fifth. All three runs were unearned, according to the MaxPreps box score.

Miguel Lopez pitched a six-inning complete game for Thomas More, which finished the season 15-8.

Thomas Detar drove in both runs for the San Jose private school with a two-run double. Quintin Selway and Carlos Lopez scored.

Stevenson, located in Pebble Beach, will take an 11-7 record into Saturday’s championship game.

No. 3 Harker 7, No. 2 Lincoln 2

In a matchup of San Jose schools, Harker bolted to a 7-0 lead through four innings and coasted after that.

Harker will visit top seed Stevenson for the division championship on Saturday. Harker sports a 19-6 record.

Lincoln was only outhit 6-5. Julian Saiz and Desmond Casto each had two hits for Lincoln. Both of Casto’s hits were doubles.
