Greg Larson has been appointed as Cupertino’s interim city manager as of next month.

Larson will assume his new role on July 14 and will work with current City Manager Deb Feng to help ensure a smooth transition.

The Cupertino City Council appointed Larson on June 15. Larson has served as town manager of Los Gatos, city manager of Milpitas and deputy city manager of San Jose.

“We will benefit from an interim city manager with not just decades of local municipal managerial experience, but who also has a clear and abiding interest in the mechanics and underlying philosophy of local democratic governance,” Mayor Darcy Paul said in a statement.

Larson graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1978.

“I have a profound respect for the local government structure,” he said. “As interim city manager, I will devote myself to continue strengthening the Cupertino organization as the council recruits and appoints the next city manager.”

Local recruitment firm William Avery & Associates will head up the search for a permanent city manager. Bill Avery, principal of the firm, will be coordinating the recruitment.
