• Paulina Porizkova, 56, spoke out against anti-aging culture in a new Instagram post.
  • “I want to shine a bright light in the dark corners of the shame that is heaped on women for daring to age,” she wrote.
  • She went on to recommend a handful of Instagram accounts run by women who inspire her to age confidently.

We know Paulina Porizkova to be outspoken about embracing her age. The 56-year-old often uses the hashtag #sexyhasnoexpirationdate on social media, and her latest musings announce her disdain for the term “anti-aging.”

“Combat age. Reverse aging. Rejuvenate. Anti age. None of this is possible. Yet, if you do an internet search on aging, this is what you’ll get,” she captioned a July 29 Instagram post. “Pills, potions, and workouts to fight the aging process.”

The former supermodel is right. According to Global Industry Analysts, Inc., the anti-aging products market earned an estimated $34.2 billion in 2020 and is rapidly growing, projected to earn $47.8 billion by 2027.

Looking at those statistics is a bit jarring when you step back and realize what Porizkova has: “You know what[‘s] the only way to stop aging?” she wrote. “Dying.”

“I do not want to fight myself every day for the rest of my life. But I do want to make the best of what I was given. And I want to shine a bright light in the dark corners of the shame that is heaped on women for daring to age,” she wrote.

She went on to recommend a handful of Instagram accounts run by women who inspire her to age confidently. “There are many many more, and inspirations for all different reasons,” she added. “But for now I’m just picking those who are accepting their aging and making it beautiful.”

Her followers were inspired by her bold language and poise, which prompted an encouraging conversation in the comments. “You inspire me daily,” Michelle Visage wrote. “Keep doing you, Paulina. You are quite a refreshing treasure and you express yourself beautifully. 💜” another added.

“I love your approach to aging. It’s happening to all of us. The only thing we can do is embrace it, then do whatever the heck we feel like to feel great in our own skin. To each her own, right! 😀👙👙👙,” someone else wrote.

Earlier this year, Porizkova began sharing makeup-free, filter-free photos of herself in an effort to improve the lack of representation for naturally aging women online.

“When I finally appreciate what I [have] been given, it’s in society’s opinion I’m losing my beauty,” she captioned a January selfie. “I’m trying my hardest to withstand barbs of having past my prime, because God d*mmit, I feel in my prime now!”

She continued: “The combination of my learning, maturing, and earning my wrinkles, combined with the way I look, I believe is the best balance I have ever had.”
