Ernie Ball Music Man Unveils the Tim Commerford Limited Edition StingRay Bass Collection
Ernie Ball Music Man has unveiled a new collection of instruments in their Artist Series in collaboration with Tim Commerford. The bassist is, of course, known for his work with Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, Prophets of Rage, and his newest project 7D7D, which will be having a debut release soon. He’s been a StingRay player for most of his career, so it makes sense the line includes four variations of EBMM’s flagship bass.
“I literally was like 18 years old when I saw a Music Man StingRay. It was a blonde Sting Ray with a black pickguard, and it was at a pawn shop…” Commerford explains. “I scraped up the money and I got it, and that bass became the bass I used to record the first Rage [Against The Machine] record and it was a big part of my life.”
The Tim Commerford Artist Series StingRay Collection has four models: a full-scale active bass in black, a full-scale passive bass in natural, a short-scale active bass in natural, and a short-scale passive bass in vintage sunburst. Each of the basses is limited to 50 instruments per model. “The passive full-scale and active short-scale models deserve special consideration, as these never before offered configurations are now available for the first time,” the company adds.
The line has three unique features that carry to each model, including a height-adjustable custom finger ramp, a pickup cover with a contoured thumb rest, and a classic string-thru bridge with adjustable mute pads.
